UDL Library Floor Plan

When entering the library, you will have two ramps at each entrance with the entryway 40 inches in width. The ramp will have a vertical slope of ¼ inch to the base of the ramp. There will be two rooms, one for storage of professional books and textbooks and the other is for the librarian’s office. The door frame will be 32 inches in width. The librarian will have a desk for checking out books that are 40 inches tall to provide enough vertical reach to accommodate patrons in wheelchairs. All the bookshelves will be 48 inches in height and between the bookshelves you will have 60-inch width to provide enough space for two wheelchairs to pass by. There are going to be tables between the bookshelves and between the table and the bookshelves there will be a 32-inch width. You will also have a whole group area with a rug that is ½ inches thick and has a rubber bottom to stay in place. For UDL components you will find a calm down corner for students with a variety of objects and tools for helping regulate emotions. We will feature text and posters that have a variety of visual content. There will also be different tactile objects for students to use at stations to foster creativity. The library will have computers that feature text-to-speech capabilities for students to use on research projects or any other project that is needed. The computers will also have keyboard commands to provide an alternate for mouse action. The whole group area will feature a rug to allow movement and active participation in library lessons. The whole group area will also feature a smart board for the librarian to use to make lessons more interactive and help to foster the different learning styles of students.

  1. Hi, I love your library floor plan. I like the way you incorporated a calming corner for students who just need some quiet time. This is something that I think all libraries need to have.
