Podcast on "Phantom Libraries" with Haley Bradley and Leyna Brewer
My partner for this podcast was Leyna Brewer and we chose to
do our podcast on “Phantom Libraries” from around the world that no longer
exist or have disappeared long ago. I
chose to upload our podcast into SoundCloud just because I had used the
platform before in a previous class. I
ran into a little bit of trouble trying to make sure the video/audio was
uploaded into the correct format but other than that it was a very easy process. I titled the work and put a short
description, and the link is attached to this post. I reviewed two other platforms, one was
PodBean which was also very easy with one small hiccup, being that I didn’t
have an RSS feed which I would have had to switch my SoundCloud post over to
PodBean and then upload the video from there.
I liked how there was an Episode tab on the left-hand side of the
website where you could keep track of your different podcasts. I also looked into Audacity platform, and it
is fairly easy and a similar set up to SoundCloud, you just need the right
format to upload which takes a few extra steps to accomplish. Overall, I like how SoundCloud gives you easy
ways to share, stream, and copy your audio and it is very user-friendly.
The use of podcasts I can see how it could be beneficial for
libraries; the librarian can do so many different things with a podcast that
can help increase community involvement and get the students involved as
well. Podcasts are very easy to use and
using a digital platform you can easily upload and send them out to school or
send a link to your personal podcast platform.
I would love to see podcasts used to introduce new books, or to host a
bedtime story with your librarian each week or month, or have students talk
about new books they love to read and use this to involve the school and
community. The only challenges I could
see you running into are maybe the technology piece and making sure you have
stable internet and a good environment with working audio features to make the
podcast high quality.

I really look forward to hosting booktalks with my students but I understand that not all students have the time to attend afterschool events due to other commitments. In order to reach those students, I really love your idea of creating a podcast where you have students talk about books they've read to share with their peers! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI also really enjoyed listening to you and Leyna talk about phantom libraries and I thought you all included some really interesting facts!
This seems to be a timely topic! Nice work here!
ReplyDeleteHi Haley! I absolutely LOVED working on this podcast with you! The world of podcasts is exploding and I think there are so many different ways to get kids voices out there into the universe while still protecting their faces and identities. I really like your idea on "stories with the librarian". I read books with my daughter every night, but not everyone has that capability. There is some great ideas here!
ReplyDeleteHi Haley,
ReplyDeleteVery interesting topic, I love history. It is interesting to know that libraries are disappearing. I believe libraries of the 21st century need to be places where books and all forms of digital media exist. I think it is interesting to use podcast to convey your message in the library form.
